This is information directly from our Tour Partner ClubMed on Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and other locations that are affected by Hurricane Irma. Cheryl and Nelson Echevarria.
Hurricane Irma is currently 120 miles south east of Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, with maximum sustained winds of 175mph moving to the west at approximately 16mph. Our resort of Turkoise in the Turks & Caicos Islands remains under a hurricane warning at this time with the storm expected to pass the resort later today and overnight. Our corporate office located in Miami, Florida, as well as our Sandpiper Bay resort, located in Port St. Lucie, Florida are now under a hurricane watch.
Hurricane Irma passed our resort of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic last night and we are pleased to report that during the storm all services remained operational, no loss of power, water or air conditioning. The beachfront restaurant, Indigo, has sustained some damage from the waves and will remain closed for a short period of time. Clean up of the landscaping and any debris around the resort is being managed by our GO teams. All our GM’s and GO’s are safe and returning to normal activities as the weather improves throughout the day. Wifi and telephone service will return this afternoon. The airport is open and operating.
We continue to closely monitor this storm and our teams in the US, Canada and Europe, along with our operations team in the resorts, are working to ensure that our guests are not only safe but minimally impacted during the passing of Hurricane Irma. The safety, security and well-being of our guests and staff is always, and remains, the highest priority in every situation. Our resorts have been built to withstand hurricane force winds and all resorts are equipped with generators, fuel supplies, along with food and water reserves. All our resort teams are following strict preparation procedures in advance of the storm.
We have the following policies in place for our guests impacted by either of these situations.
Guests scheduled to travel
For guests scheduled to arrive in Punta Cana, Turkoise or Sandpiper between September 5, 2017 and September 12, 2017, should they wish to delay their arrival or revise their destination we are relaxing our policies to allow guests to decide what is best for them. Guests are welcome to revise to Cancun, Ixtapa, Sandpiper, Turkoise or Punta Cana without any penalty on their land stay and with no increase in their land price. Travel must be completed by October 31, 2017. Guests will need to contact, their travel professionals, their carrier for flight availability and information on fees which would be their responsibility.
Guests scheduled to arrive should remain in contact with their travel professionals and their air carrier for up to date flight information. All of our resorts remain open and ready to welcome our guests.
Guests currently in resort
Should guests be unable to depart our resort as scheduled due to flight cancellations, we do provide the following for our guests based on their individual booking.
Guests who booked an air inclusive package with us may remain at the resort free of charge until their airline is able to reschedule their return flight.
Guests who booked only their land stay with us will be able to remain at the resort for a nightly rate equivalent to 50% of our local nightly rate.
We will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Irma over the coming days and provide you with as much information as we have available.
